VTS Opinion of Use: Beautiful condition and hard to find history! This came to me from the family of the original owner. I was unaware of the following history until it arrived with the included letter: "The owner of this typewriter was born in Germany in 1925. Ruth's father was a Customs Duty officer, so her family moved often. Ruth lived in Leipzig, Eastern Germany during WWII, where she taught 1st grade. She witnessed firsthand the massive wartime devastation of Leipzig in 1943- 45. Ruth immigrated to the US in 1953 at the age of 27. The US did not recognize her teaching degrees, so she cared for the preschool children of the Vice President of Harvey Comics in New York City. In 1957 she met Jaan, a carpenter originally from Estonia at a mutual friends wedding and married shortly thereafter. She raised a family and ultimately returned to work for the US Army Research and Development. After enjoying here retirement, Ruth came to live with her daughter's family in Virginia. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She unfortunately suffered Alzeimer's disease in her later years but throughout her life she was a prolific card writer and used her calligraphy and baking skills to serve and encourage others. We are glad this splendid machine can find a home and be appreciated.". If these machines could talk.

I think the Continental is a beautiful, well built machine! Over looked by many collectors and writers alike. The sleek body lines coupled with a quality mechanical configuration makes this a great retro typewriter. The standard QWERTZ German keyboard layout is not an issue with a little practice. This is a consignment piece. Please see VTS News for more information. It has been fully degreased, cleaned, adjusted, oiled, tested and comes with a new ribbon installed. Over 3 hours of a hands on process performed over several days. It's ready to type right out of the box! Thanks for looking and please let me know if you have any questions about this beautiful, original vintage typewriter or need more pictures :-)
